UDM Councillor Yongama Zigebe elected as Chairperson of Gender, Youth and People with Disabilities Committee in the City of Johannesburg
The United Democratic Movement (UDM) is proud to announce the election of Councillor
Yongama Zigebe as the Chairperson of the Gender, Youth and People with Disability Committee in
the City of Johannesburg.
This significant achievement reflects not only the trust placed in Cllr Zigebe by his peers, but also
the UDM’s commitment to advancing the rights and opportunities of all South Africans particularly
those who have historically been marginalized.
Cllr Zigebe is a dedicated public servant with a deep passion for issues relating to social justice,
equity and inclusivity.
His election to this important position is a testament to his tireless efforts in championing the rights
of vulnerable groups and his unwavering commitment to building a society where all individuals
regardless of gender, age or ability can thrive.
As chairperson of the committee, Cllr Zigebe will focus on driving policies and initiatives that
empower women, promote youth development and ensure the full inclusion and participation of
persons living with disabilities in all spheres of life.
This includes working towards promoting gender equality where he will be:
- Advancing programmes that address gender-based violence, promote economic
empowerment for women, advocate for equal representation an opportunity in leadership as
well as decision-making. - Supporting youth development: creating opportunities for young people through skills
development, job creation and education initiatives to ensure they play an active role in
shaping the future of our city. - Empowering people living with disabilities: advocating for accessible infrastructure, inclusive
policies and meaningful participation for persons with disabilities in economic, social and
political life.
The UDM is confident that under Cllr Zigebe’s leadership, the Committee will bring impactful
change to the lives of the people of Johannesburg.
