The African National Congress (ANC) retained its seat in the by-election held on 12 February 2025 in the Eastern Cape while the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) won a seat in KwaZulu-Natal
The new ANC Councillor is:
- Gideon Mvuyisi Masela, in ward 10 in the Matatiele Municipality, EC441, Eastern Cape. The party retained the seat it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 76.18%% of the total votes cast, compared to 64.12% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 48.47%.
The new IFP Councillor is:
- Kwenzile Bongumusa Mtembu, in ward 15 in the Umhlabuyalingana Municipality, KZN271, KwaZulu-Natal. The party won a seat previously held by the ANC in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 48.24% of the total votes cast, compared to 55.66% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 59.80%.
