The South African Football Association (SAFA) and Standard Bank have announced a landmark sponsorship agreement that will see Africa’s largest bank by assets become an official partner of South Africa’s national football structures from 2026 onwards.
The multi-year partnership will provide strategic financial and developmental support to the country’s senior men’s and women’s national teams — Bafana Bafana and Banyana Banyana — as well as various grassroots and junior national teams. The sponsorship is expected to strengthen high-performance programmes, improve preparation for international competitions, and enhance development pathways for emerging football talent.
SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan welcomed the partnership, describing it as a critical boost for South African football at a pivotal time.
“This partnership reflects the kind of investment that South African football needs,” said Jordaan. “Standard Bank’s support will strengthen the competitiveness of our national teams and development structures as they represent our country on the continental and world stage.”
David Hodnett, Chief Executive Officer of Standard Bank South Africa, said the sponsorship aligns with the bank’s broader commitment to national development and social impact.
“For Standard Bank, the sponsorship is a natural extension of our commitment to South Africa. Football remains the most widely followed sport in the country, and it has the power to unite communities, inspire young people and drive inclusive growth,” he said.
The agreement signals renewed confidence in South African football’s governance and growth strategy, while reinforcing the role of private sector investment in strengthening the country’s sporting ecosystem. With preparations already underway for upcoming continental and global competitions, the partnership positions the national teams for sustained competitiveness and long-term success.
