City Power launches community engagement sessions in Mondeor as part of our winter campaign plan
As part of City Power’s winter campaign plan, we successfully launched our Community Engagement Session in Mondeor,, with an educational campaign focused on load limiting and geyser control.
Acting Chief Executive Officer at City Power, Charles Tlouane, emphasised the significance of the initiative: “As we prepare for the winter season, proactive planning alongside our customers is essential to safeguard the stability of our electricity supply.”
He also added that, “raising awareness about these systems is vitally important, as these initiatives empower our customers with practical tools that reduce household electricity costs, ease pressure on the grid during peak periods, and contribute to a more reliable and sustainable power supply for all residents of the City of Johannesburg.”

Speaking at the community engagement session Senior Engineer: Grid Access Unit, Nkosinathi Khuzwayo,
officially introduced City Power’s initiatives on load limiting and geyser control, during a well-attended session, providing residents with clear and practical information on how load limiting works, effective ways to save electricity and the benefits of geyser control.
This initiative forms part of City Power’s broader efforts to promote energy efficiency as we move into the peak-period of winter season. Systems such as the Geyser Control assist by temporarily reducing power consumption during peak demand periods, without significantly affecting the availability of hot water.
Customers also received valuable information on the benefits of lower household energy costs, effective peak load management, and the extended lifespan of appliances due to decreased unnecessary strain.

Energy efficiency remains central to building a more sustainable electricity supply. Beyond geyser control,
through the adoption of complementary solutions such as using energy efficient LED lighting, installing solar water heaters where feasible, and practising mindful usage habits like switching off appliances from the wall and utilising timer switches, these alternative measures, combined with City Power’s initiatives, will help ease pressure on the grid while delivering long-term cost savings for households.
“Energy efficiency is not just about saving electricity, it is about protecting our communities. When we use energy wisely, we reduce the strain on the grid, lower household electricity bills and minimise loadshedding. Therefore, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable environment for our children and future generations”, stated Khuzwayo.

City Power encourages all residents to regularly check our communication platforms for updates on upcoming Community Engagement Sessions in their wards. These sessions offer an important opportunity for customers to ask questions, interact directly with City Power officials, and gain practical knowledge that contributes to a more reliable and sustainable electricity supply for all of Johannesburg.
We invite all residents to attend future community engagements and partner with us in promoting responsible energy use.
